In Norse mythology, a Valkyrie ("chooser of the slain") is one of a host of female figures who decides who falls and dies in battle. Selecting only the bravest and most fierce warriors of those who die in battle (the others go to the afterlife ), the valkyries bring their chosen to the afterlife hall of the slain, Valhalla, ruled over by the god Odin where they train and prepare for the final battle (Ragnarok) that decides the fate of the 9 worlds.
