[On any of these squad presets you are allowed to use any type of primary and secondary weapon you choose. Though it is requested each member of the squad use a different squad perk for better combat efficiency]
-Basic Squad Guide Lines-
Always remember to listen to your squad leader and stay in formation till you are told other wise. Have faith in your squad leader and know that he or she will get you in the right place at the right time. If you are ever a squad leader, remember to stay smart and aware of your surroundings. The choices you make WILL effect the lives of your squad mates and the course of the battle...
When in the ranks of your squad, it is best to keep your weapon suppressed and only fire when ordered or the lives of your squad mates depend on it. This will keep your squad un-detected and safer when opening fire on un-aware targets or even the aware ones. Always remember that if your squad leader tells you to stay quiet, that you should never fire your weapon and never sprint. Stay crouched and move slowly. Stay in the shadows and always follow your squad leader...
Another good tip when working with squad mates is to avoid all speaking at once. Only speak when necessary, your squad leader will do most of the talking. This doesn’t mean you should be afraid of voicing your opinion. In some cases the squad leader will have to admit to being wrong once in awhile...
One more thing to think about is your soldier camo. Believe it or not it does actually effect how easily you’re spotted in combat. Consider the environment when you pick your camo for the match. You would make a pretty easy target, wearing Siberia snow camo in the middle of Caspian Border’s woodland or navy blue in the middle of Operation Firestorm’s sandy deserts.
Lastly, consider your squads perks. If one or more players have the same squad perk it would be in your best interest to change yours or have the other player change his or hers. This will improve your combat efficiency. (Personal favorites: Ammo, Flak, Explosives, Sprint.)
-Squads Vehicle Use-
It’s also good to use vehicles as a group. Say there are 2 tanks and 4 players. You would be more effective with 2 players in each tank than you would be with 3 players in a tank and 1 loner. Keep this in mind.
When driving a jeep, have 3 squad mates ride in the jeep while the other drives a tank or some other form of vehicle. Same can be done the opposite way. 3 in a tank, one in a jeep. What ever your squad feels is best.
Using a transport chopper is a great way to get the whole squad in one vehicle and working together. 1 pilots, 2 gun from each side and one repairs when the chopper takes damage.
Attack choppers are best used with a gunner. Though it can only carry 2 soldiers, it’s never a problem to split up into 2 groups if you have 4 players. 2 take the attack chopper and 2 in a tank, helicopter providing overwatch for the tank or ground troops depending on what your squad or squad leader choose to do.
Another very helpful thing to keep in mind, If your squad is constantly using vehicles is to make sure each player in the vehicle is using a different vehicle perk. Example: 2 soldiers are in a tank. The driver is using IR smoke, guided shells and reactive armor. The gunner is using the same perks. The tank has no extra advantages. Though if the gunner is using proximity scanner over reactive armor than the tank will have both reactive armor and proximity scanner. Same goes for any other 2 man vehicles.
One last tip on squads and vehicles. If you have 2 soldiers in a tank or other kind of vehicle, make sure to have a repair tool handy. In a tank one man can keep firing from the tank while the other hides behind it, repairing it safely. This can be a life saver in a heated tank battle and if preformed correctly makes you nearly un-stoppable.
-Multi Squads-
There may come a time where you have more than 4 players. As you know you can only have 4 players in one squad. This can be easily fixed so you can keep in contact with your 2nd squad. Say you have 8 players. Each squad would have 1 leader to command the other 3 in his squad. In order to keep in contact with the 2nd squad you would need to change your voice setting to team rather than just squad. Though with 8 players all speaking into the mic at once things would get pretty confusing. This is also simple to fix. Only the 2 squad leaders would change their voice settings to team. As for the rest of the squad, they would leave their voice setting on squad. That way all the soldiers would not be hearing each other and getting confused. Team 1 squad leader would be able to hear the leader of squad 2 but not the soldiers. Same goes for the soldiers of squad 2 they would not be able to hear the leader of squad one. This would make communication easier for both squads having both the leaders communicating with each other rather than each whole squad trying to communicate.
-Sniper Tips-
Being a sniper in Battlefield 3 is truly an art. One thing you must always remember is bullet drop. An easy way to find out the bullet drop of a sniper rifle is to go into an empty lobby and fire off rounds at objects that are at different ranges. You will soon find out how high you need to aim above your target depending on how far away he is.
An important thing to remember, is never use a suppressor when shooting at long ranges. If you’re shooting at long ranges it’s likely you will be dug in somewhere and away from most enemy units. It would be pointless to use a suppressor when your target is nearly a mile away and all his friends don’t even know where to look for you. Suppressors also increase bullet drop in all sniper rifles. The bullets move slower and drop faster making it much more difficult to snipe.
Gadgets can be the death of you! You would be surprised how easy it is to tag a spawn beacon or TUGS from so far away. They give a sniper away if you stay near them. Think about where you place your TUGS/MAV and Radio Beacons when you set up to snipe.
Kill cams are a hard thing to deal with as a sniper. Once you kill someone in one area it’s smart to move because it’s very likely he knows where you are. He could either tag you or worse. You can only kill so many people as a sniper before they get pissed off and hunt you down. Personally I wish people would turn off kill cams in their servers. It makes it that much more realistic. Move often, set up well, stay hidden.
Always keep an eye out for enemy sniper scope glints. (the light that reflects from the scope) This often means the enemy sniper is facing your direction and you could be shot at any moment. Keep in mind though, even if you can see the glint doesn’t mean the sniper is looking at you or even knows you’re there.
Beware when you spawn on your radio beacon. You never know who could be waiting for you when you do.
The M98B has the least amount of bullet drop compared to all the other snipers rifles Including premium snipers rifles .
The Straight Pull Bolt attachment on the sniper rifles allows you to pull the bolt back and re-chamber a new bullet while aiming down the scope. You cannot re-chamber a bullet while aiming down the scope without this attachment.
Any accurate sniper uses a bipod.
Using the Suppression soldier perk with a sniper is a great way to throw off the aim of an enemy sniper if you miss him by a hair. Giving you time to recalculate and make a follow up shot hopefully striking his head. You will know if an enemy has this perk when an enemy rifle bullet cracks as it passes your face and you sway un-controllably even with a bipod mounted solid surface.
-Practice-
Please find time to take in and practice all the things you have read here. We will be practicing squad team work and other key features in empty lobbies so when the real thing comes you’ll be ready and know what you’re doing. Contact a Platoon Leader to find out more and ask about practices. We thank you for your service in the Battlefield 3 branch of the Band of Brothers clan. Any other questions or comments feel free to ask me or a fellow platoon leader. -LucienLachance94 “Okay, on the count of 3! Ready? Go!”
