太平洋戦争（大東亜戦争）当時の艦隊型新鋭駆逐艦であった朝潮型駆逐艦、陽炎型駆逐艦及びその改良型夕雲型駆逐艦、そして「島風」の計50隻の中で、「雪風」は唯一終戦まで生き残った駆逐艦である。日本海軍の駆逐艦は、激戦区に投入され非常に損耗率が高かったが、本艦は真珠湾攻撃から大和特攻まで16回以上の主要な作戦に参加し、戦果を上げつつほとんど無傷で終戦を迎え「奇跡の駆逐艦」と呼ばれた。戦時中の時点で「呉の雪風、佐世保の時雨」と謳われた幸運艦であった。敗戦後、中華民国に賠償艦として引き渡され丹陽と改名、同国海軍の主力艦として活躍した。1969年（昭和44年）夏、台湾にて座礁し解体された。
