February 13, 1945

RAF bombers begin the first large scale aerial bombing of the city, Dresden.

- The bombing begins the night of the 13th and continues until midday of the 15th.

- 769 RAF and 527 USAAF bombers take part in the raid, dropping 3906.9 tons of bombs. Throughout the war Dresden is hit by 7100.5 tons of ordinance.

- Estimates area as high as 25k deaths due to the raids. Over 90% of the city is razed.

- According to USAAF reports, Dresden is listed as the 7th largest bombed city. Berlin (1) is hit by 67,607 tons, Leipzig (6) by 11,616 tons.

- Luftwaffe flak cannons were shipped to the eastern front in 1944 and the few BF-110s and their pilots were forced to sit on the runways watching the city burn in the distance due to weather.
